It's about access and numbers of people who will pay.

Pre-cable, ticket sales were the primary source of income. Distance alone was a huge influence on the number of tickets that could be sold. It is why pro-sports teams located primarily in the largest cities and why smaller cities needed passionate fan bases.

Under the traditional cable model, there has to be sufficient density of people who are passionate enough to make it feasible for a carrier to pay for a network like the SECN and BTN. It is why those 2 networks are successful at a much higher level than the PACN.

However, under an OOT scenario, it comes down to total numbers of people willing to pay, almost regardless of where they live. I don't need for my neighbors who know and care nothing about ACC football to help me lobby our cable carrier. I just need to be willing to buy the product.

I'll be surprised if the "ACCN" isn't a combo of both traditional cable and some type(s) of OOT offerings.
