The hype around that game this year is tremendous.
It is talked about on Sirius XM Radio like the biggest game in Pittsburgh since the last time the Steelers won the AFC Championship there. The cheapest tickets on Stub Hub in the upper deck end zone are $175.00. Crazy.
Here's how a Penn State beat writer describes it.
When it comes to Penn State’s 2016 schedule, Pitt is it. It is the first truly must-win game of the Franklin Era. Penn State opens with Kent State in Beaver Stadium on Sept. 3, then heads to the Steel City to start building Franklin’s post-sanction resume.
Make no mistake: It is a Big Game.
No loss of any variety by Penn State in 2016 would sting as much as a defeat at Heinz. Not even a repeat defeat to Temple, in Beaver Stadium on Sept. 17. Been there, done that. No Big Ten defeat -- not even a fall at the hands of Rutgers or Maryland (1-1 vs. Penn State over the past two seasons) -- would be as big.
As it begins Year No. 24 in the Big Ten Conference, Penn State still does not have a real league rival. Ohio State and Michigan? No, they have each other. (And the Wolverines also have Sparty.) Rutgers and Maryland? No, not yet. They feel about Penn State like Penn State feels about Ohio State and Michigan. Unrequited hate. [Post edited by HOO86 at 07/01/2016 1:46PM]
