I had read about the transition before but not in this detail and I hadn't seen the numbers. I think part of that withholding also goes into the new members acquiring their share of the BTN which originally cost about $45m per member.

Whether this is accurate or not, it does illustrate the complexity not only in trying to compare conference deals, but individual school deals as well. "We made $449 million! (Oh, we also had $436 million in expenses.)" "We got paid $35 million! (and we have to pay some of it back.)"
