Why are you guys so sensitive about Wake?

I'm all for charity and helping those who are in need. However, Wake Forest U is just fine whether it's athletics are competing in the ACC or whether they're competing in the Sun Belt.

And it's not like they have a ton of fans who care either way. Seriously. This isn't life or death here. I went to a football game down there that one season they were good and it was a snooze fest. I was recently working at their hospital and I'm dead serious when I tell you I never heard one person chatting about Wake sports.

I happen to feel Wake Forest U may chose to drop out of the P5 arms race at some point anyhow. It's just not that big a deal to them or their alums. I attended grad school at Emory U, a school that's quite similar to Wake, and they have very intentionally chosen not to participate in bigtime college athletics. They have a top 10 endowment, but they don't offer scholarships for athletes. They compete in DIII. And that school is fine doing so. The Ivies are fine without bigtime sports too.

Now when it comes to VT, I feel athletics are a much more important part of the culture of the school. VT alums and students care, and they care a lot. It's also a massive revenue generator for the SWVA economy.

But I realize that even VT would survive if its sports competed in DIII. However, as long as VT is choosing to compete with the bigdogs, I feel VT should do all it can to legally win and make money through sports. So I don't feel it's necessary or appropriate for VT fans to subsidize sports at a school like Wake. I would much rather us pay our coaches a million dollars more per season than to have to split funds with Wake freakin Forest.
