Not if they could still have an impact on the seeding for the semi-final

round. The 4 CCG winners move onto the semi-final round, but the Committee would still have to seed them. You don't think college football fans would enjoy seeing more match-ups between the top teams in the power conferences? Right now the Pac-12 rarely plays the ACC or SEC during the regular season. The SEC rarely plays the Big Ten during the regular season. The ACC rarely plays the Big XII and to a less extent the Big Ten during the regular season. For majority of the power conferences, they only require 1 game against another power conference and then teams can fill their 2 or 3 remaining spots with creampuffs. The games against the creampuffs are already devalued because majority of the time they end with a power conference blowout.

For example VT has played Arkansas State 4 times and won all 4 games.

1994: 34-7
1997: 50-0
2002: 63-7
2011: 26-7

Whether a team is trying to earn a spot in the Playoffs or a New Year's Day Six bowl game, there is very little added value for these types of games. If anything those types of games may hurt a team's chances more than help it especially if a team's peers are playing 2 or 3 OOC games against P5 opponents.
