It is doom and gloom time. Take a gander at this.

http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/

ACC schools with comparable fanbases to instate SEC schools are behind over $20 million/year on average in revenue.

Schools like VT are $10 to $20 million behind comparable schools from other leagues too. Heck, there's not a lot of difference in fan support between VT and Texas AandM in my opinion. VT has as much a dedicated following as them and an even better recent history (last 25 years) on the field. However, Texas AandM is in a totally different league than VT. They can come and take whoever they want from out Athletics Department anytime they chose it seems. They nearly took Bud Foster, when that guy had every reason in the world to stay in Blacksburg over their little college town.

Anyhow, schools like WVU, Kansas St., Iowa, Minnesota, Arkansas, Kentucky, South Carolina, Michigan St, Missouri, MARYLAND should not be earning so much more money from sports than VT.

And as I mentioned earlier, most of those schools could pluck away most of our coaches due to their massive revenue gap over VT nowadays.

And the primary reason for that is conference affiliation. We are really close to dropping down another tier as a program. And every report out there suggests the gap will be widening. I will say that the Pac12 likely results in similar economic results as the ACC, but they have significant geographic and demographic disadvantages when comparing leagues. And the Big12 is still solidly ahead of the ACC when it comes to earnings.
