Yes, the NHL waits until a stoppage of play


All scoring plays are reviewed, and I guess the ACC/SEC model will have the replay officials watching the game and making the call to review when the play ends, much like how the coach's challenges in the NFL work.

It should be faster because there will be an official or several officials in the war room making the call instead of the official running over to look at a monitor.

As for weather, the NHL plays almost every game indoors, but they deal with a lot of snow and ice in the northern part of the US and 7 cities in Canada.
