These programs are already turning a profit. ALL of them.


The schools like to suggest that they are losing money from athletics, perhaps for the reasons you described. However, as Forbes has indicated, ALL the P5 schools make money from athletics. Even Rutgers and Maryland were making money prior to their heading to the B1G, where they are definitely making major dough nowadays. The schools fix the numbers so they can do things like charge students and ask for donations.

And many of them are straight up nowadays about their turning a profit anyhow. Texas can't hide but only so much money. It hasn't harmed their IRS status. The U makes money from things like parking and merchandise too. They turn profits from selling cheeseburgers to students. Why can't they make money from sports?

And I agree with you about the paying of players being relatively peanuts. You could pay every football player 40-50K for what VT is paying Fuente alone.
However, that MAY be slightly problematic for the Wakes and BCs of the world. And it might just be enough to convince them to just revert back to true amateurism.
