In some ways Navy is blazing the trail for ND regarding Conference

Some here might not realize it, but the Naval Academy gave up 134 years of independence in football to join the American Athletic Conference last year. That was a big deal for Navy. We'll have to see how that works out for them. I obviously think that the ACC is a better conference, but it is still a big step for Navy.

Now Army was in a conference and chose to return to independence. So they went the opposite direction.

Both of these institutions like Notre Dame recruit nationally, and want national marketing. It won't take long for Navy to be able to report on how it works for them. I've been saying for a while that if Navy joined the ACC with ND, the scheduling issues could work out. The desire to remain independent would just be because of tradition.
