Don't forget though, we performed way under expectations in 2014

The belief in 2014 was that that team of our's was a a fringe top 25 type team. That's part of the reason after the OSU win that we jumped all the way to 17.

Injuries later in the year hurt a lot. The upset loss to ECU to hurt a lot. But that was a team that was expected going in that game to be an 8-4 type team. That OSU team was expected to be a top 5-10 type team that may get involved in playoff discussions (but wasn't considered to be a bona fide contender).

In retrospect, our win the Shoe was a huge upset. But what people forget is that at the time, it wasn't this huge "shock the world" type upset. It was an upset and a big win for the program. It made people take notice that maybe Virginia Tech was back. But people here are forgetting that going in, it wasn't believed to be the national champions vs a 6-6 team. The 14 point line going in was for a 10-2 type, 5-10 ranked team hosting an 8-4 type team.

Not far from what Virginia Tech vs Tennessee is expected to be. I'd say Tennessee is expected to be about as good as OSU was expected to be in 14. But I'm not sure expectations are as high for us as they were in 14.
