1) the bottom line-- it most certainly is not the fault of the long suffering Hokie Club membership that the management and methodologies of the fund raisers have been stuck in the "good ole boy" paradigm of a bygone era; yet despite that fact, the members are continually demanded to "dig deeper" (spreading ever increasing costs over what is in essence a fixed group of individuals); what is it about growing the Hokie Club membership with proven, professional strategies and leadership that is so hard to understand?; this issue proves one thing--the current Hokie Club management and fund raising methodologies are not up to the task of supporting the grand vision of Va Tech athletics;

2) one word of warning---NASCAR; that organization & sport forgot and took for granted the "fan base" in a quest for an expanded geographic reach and bigger facilities; to see the results of that strategy, turn on your TV any Sunday afternoon or Saturday night to see half empty events with corresponding low TV ratings; the fan base that built that sport have been taken for granted, ignored and priced out of the sport (e.g. Spring 2016 Bristol race); significant effort needs to be directed at improving the "game experience" and "donor experience" of the current fan/donor base; any successful business knows it is much easier/better to retain current customers and build on that base than to have to be constantly replacing former/disgruntled customers;
