I think winning more often will solve a lot of these issues.


I don't have the data to support this claim, but it seemed like Hokie Club membership grew proportionately with VT football's rise to prominence in the mid- to late-90s. As the program plateaued and fans began to grow a bit frustrated, I think membership started to fall off. The past 3-4 seasons have really taken a toll on fan enthusiasm, and I imagine that's why we're seeing the athletic department struggle to get donations.

If Fuente quickly turns the football program around, I think you'll see fans come back in droves and want to be part of the excitement again. If that happens, I think support for the other sports will follow as well. I just don't think it's going to happen overnight.
