I get that, but I think you are missing the point

The member is essentially paying $200 fee for $100, $50, or $0 fee seats. In theory that person could pay the minimum fee associated with the seats (i.e. $100 if the seats are in the $100 section) and still end up with the same seats. Now of course it would depend on what members ranked below that member do, but that has always been the case (to a degree).

As far as whether changing Hokie Club levels will always impact it, I am not sure that will always be the case. If a person drops from $2.500 per year to $2,300 per year (aka change from Golden to Silver), then the member's accumulative contributions to the Hokie Club may be high enough to earn enough points to have no real significant impact on their ranking. At least not enough to boot the person from the $100 section to the $50 or $0 section especially if there are tickets still available in the $100 section and the member was giving more than the minimum to sit in those seats.

Now I do think it is unlikely people will be able to do it at the $800. However, depending on how many get bumped from the $800 level to the $600 level because of excess demand, then it might be possible for someone to only give $600 (instead of $800) and still be able to keep their current seats in the $600 section. Ultimately it will depend on how many get bumped to the next section below because of excess demand and where a person ranks in terms of cumulative points that may dictate whether a person can reduce their contribution (at least for a year) and still be able to keep their current seats.
