There really isn't another Power 5 school as far away from a major metro area as Virginia Tech. Even Kansas State (who has the reputation of being completely in the middle of nowhere) is less than 2 hours from Kansas City.

For VT, Greensboro/Winston-Salem is the closest major metro (W-S is about two hours). Then there's Charlotte and Richmond that are about 3 hours away each. But very little that is a comfortable day drive away.

University of Iowa is one of the few schools that can have a case made that it is just as secluded. Maybe there are one or two others. But the point is that Blacksburg's location is a detriment to having fans coming to games. The fact that we get the support we do is a HUGE testament to how great our fans really are.
