You don't understand the dynamics.

Lacrosse continues to be the fastest growing sport in the USA. The sport is growing dramatically at all levels and in all parts of the country. Within another decade or so women's lacrosse teams will be the rule, not the exception for D-1 schools. VT is well situated in terms of the lacrosse hotbeds (Maryland, NJ, Pennsylvania, NY). We just need a coach who can recruit the top players.

Field hockey, btw, is very much a regional sport (albeit Virginia falls into that region). There are already 40% more women's lax teams than there are field hockey teams at the college level and the gap increases every year.

Lacrosse is far more appealing to the younger generations. Ask any girl who has played both lacrosse and field hockey and over 90% will prefer lacrosse.

Bottom line, forget any discussion about dropping lacrosse. Whit is smarter than that. It's just a matter of finding the right coach.
