I wonder how any ACCN would compare?
The PAC demographic seems somewhat similar to the ACC demographic minus FSU (Florida) and Clemson (South Carolina). I would add Georgia, but the ACC has GT, not UGa. North of ths, the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast states seem to be less passionate about college sports as a general rule. Yes, you have UNC basketball fans and VT football fans, but the region as a whole seems less passionate toward college athletics, even with very good olympic athletic programs at UVa, Duke and Syracuse.
So calling the PACN a disaster may be like a window into a future ACCN. May be why Swofford is having such a difficult time wrapping his arms around it. He's trying to sell the entire conference, but there's only 7 to 8 solid programs to sell with 6 poor fanbase followings, not to mention the oversaturation on North Carolina schools.
I really want to see an ACCN, but wonder if it would be any better or as successful as a PACN.
