In your example of encouraging Texas Tech going to the Pac-12
what if a conference has no interest in a particular school. Should the ACC (or whomever) vastly overpay and maybe even come close to breaking the bank in order to make it happen? I am not completely against paying a conference money to take school. However, all the reports I have seen suggest that the Pac-12 has no interest in Texas Tech unless Texas is a part of the deal.
Then there is the whole debate over which school you pay other conferences to take (i.e. paying the Pac-12 to take Texas Tech) and which schools you leave twisting in the wind (i.e. not paying the Big Ten to take Iowa St).
