I happen to agree with you, though -- I wouldn't like it personally as a customer and I think there's a danger to overusing this type of thing where texts start getting spammed as much as email currently is. I also question whether it adheres to the CAN SPAM Act, in that there's no opt-out clearly stated within the message to you.

I also think the ability of customers to understand that it's spam is undersold as well. I don't think many companies will have the ability to create seamless communications that don't read clunky with the personalized sections varying depending on the base.
