Here we are considering UCONN, when Rutgers seems like a better choice. Ruts has comparable academics, but a whopping 66k enrollment and a huge research budget. The B1G saw that, but the private schools in the ACC do not value these things.

The ACC should have invited Miami, Pitt, VT, Cuse, and Rutgers in 2003. That would have created a nice landing spot for PSU when they were on the outs with the B1G over Paternogate. Four schools within an easy bus ride to State College.

Instead, the B1G went out and acquired Maryland and Rutgers as PSU's backyard road trips, scooping the hapless Swofford. Then, the academic elites who scoffed at VT and Rutgers were forced to invite Louisville. 'Irony' doesn't even begin to describe....

Swofford et al could have built an east coast juggernaut of a conference. Maybe not a football powerhouse but quite frankly, that would not have mattered. Demographics would have made it a de facto power player.

Protracted dumbassery by ACC leadership makes me wonder why UVa and VT don't skip hand-in-hand to the B1G's door looking for an invite.
