Adding fair-to-middlin' G5 schools will make this weak conference even weaker. Do we really want more mouths to feed? I continue to believe that the ONLY path to prosperity in today's landscape is the growth in strength of the ACC football programs. The solution is entirely internal to the conference. Football must be "sold" to the individual fanbases and to the population in general.
By the time the GoR expires (along with the ESPN contract), the following coaches will be mentioned in the past tense: Boeheim, Kryzewski, Roy Williams, Rick Petino, Larrangara; probably others. (Not predicting anyone's death, just retirement.) As each of them steps away from his respective program, the school's AD will need to out-bid B1G and SEC schools to hire the best available talent. ACC basketball is not guaranteed perpetual dominance. SEC/B1G wealth could trump ACC tradition. Those two conferences will continue to fortify their FB programs while looking for ways to improve their hoops.
If ACC football looks the same in 2026 as it does today, move over Big East, we're joining your club.
