Quick Liberty softball preview
The Liberty Flames visit Blacksburg today for a doubleheader with the Hokies. First pitch is at 5:00.
Liberty currently leads the Big South with a conference record of 5-1 and an overall record of 16-14. They have an RPI of 139 and have won 8 of their last 11. Virginia Tech has an overall record of 14-15, 9-3 in the ACC with an RPI of 43. The Hokies have won 8 of their last 9.
The Lady Flames lead the Big South with six shutouts this season, and sport an overall Team ERA of 3.01. Julia DiMartino (6-5) enters the week ranked third in the Big South in ERA (2.46) and their other primary starter Chase Cassady (6-6) is ranked second in the conference with 7.34 strikeouts per seven innings. Chandler Ball (4-3, 2.61) leads the Big South with three saves.
Mickey Loveridge paces the Lady Flames, batting .455, while 5 other Flames have batting averages of .300 or better.
Liberty and the Hokies have met on the diamond 45 times with the Hokies holding a 33-12 advantage. The teams split a doubleheader last year in Lynchburg when Abby Tincher tossed a 2 hit shutout. Abby has since transferred to South Alabama.
The Flames last won in Blacksburg in 2006 and the Hokies need to keep that streak going.
