Part of "embracing the JMU culture" is being (or at least give

the appearance) that he/she is active in the community. Even if he and his wife had legitimate reasons for deciding to live in Crozet, it rubbed enough of the fanbase the wrong way that eventually impacted attendance for home games. It is possible that their decision even rubbed JMU administration the wrong way. At least The Breeze did an article in December 2008 and included the following statement in it, "(It probably wasn’t the most endearing decision in the eyes of the JMU administration.)"

I even found a Richmond Times-Dispatch article after the decision was made to mutually part ways. In the article it included the following quote, "Brady’s personal decision to live outside Charlottesville, about an hour from the Dukes’ Harrisonburg campus, also irked some JMU officials."

Right or wrong the JMU fanbase and apparently the administration have come to expect the HC of an athletic program (especially one that is highly visible) to live in either H'burg or the surrounding county. In the Richmond Times-Dispatch Bourne cited lack of postseason success (specifically losing in the CAA Quarterfinals 7 of the last 8 years) and decline in attendance as the reason for parting ways with Brady. Given that JMU is currently conducting a fundraising effort to build a new Convo Center and the Duke Club had record contributions last year (even though there has been a decline in attendance), it suggests that attendance may have been as big (if not bigger) of a factor than his postseason record. I say that because the more people in attendance then the more people are willing to give to the Duke Club.
