Good observations, thank you. Were you there or watching on ESPN3?

I enjoyed the ESPN3 coverage, getting to see replays, etc and announcer comments in spite of the slightly GT homer bias.

As for Bre, she might have made it to 3B if not having to wait for the grounder to clear her base path. However, she had to wait to avoid being hit by batted ball, which probably would have happened if she had just charged ahead. In hindsight, with runs so hard to manufacture in that game, wish she would have stayed on 2nd.

As for Birle batting for Whitcomb, I was puzzled when it happened but after an amazing start for Whitcomb, she has cooled at the plate lately and striking out alot. She is SO leader on the team, by far. So maybe Coach Thomas saw something in Birle's batting practice that caused him to make the move. After all, she slugged a HR foul before striking out herself. Then I realize that although Birle has half of Whitcomb's SOs, she has less than half of Chelsea's at bats.

Anyway, with so many freshmen contributing, it looks like pretty good future for this group, even if not this season which started badly against very good competition. Of course, it's always about good pitching and pitching depth.

One more thing I thought the announcers COULD have talked about is the pitching coach sitting in the VT dugout, none other than two time AA Angela Tincher O'Brien. That could have been a colorful conversation to throw some deserved glory her way and would have been interesting at least for the Hokies in the viewing audience. I wonder how much her expertise has helped pitchers like Maggie and was it Thomas or Angela who decided to bring Maggie in at the end of the 3rd game?
