A brilliant move, but I'm not sure I'd call that marketing.


Marketing is about communication and creating the perception of value (esp. WRT your competition) in the eyes of your customer. Buying up all the pump dispensers was more about creating a barrier to entry for his competitors.

An effective strategy, if you have the capital to pull it off.
