These are clearly exciting times for Virginia Tech wrestling. Here at TSL, we have shied away from covering the sport because, well, we don't know a damn thing about it, so we couldn't do it justice. We have relied on you guys here on the Olympic Sports Board to do the heavy lifting, both by posting about it here and writing the occasional article.

But I think we have an opportunity here to make TechSideline.com the go-to stop for Virginia Tech wrestling coverage and discussion. Okay, it pretty much already is, but we can take it up another level.

I haven't talked to CC about this yet, but here are my thoughts for your consideration:

1.) It's probably (beyond) time to have a separate TSL Wrestling message board. Wrestling discussion has taken over the Olympic Sports Board anyway, so in order for other sports to get any sort of traction here, we probably need to open a dedicated Wrestling Board.

2.) Any article coverage we do needs to be expert, but it needs to be accessible to the general public, as well. Wrestling is a sport the large majority of people don't understand. My son participated in youth wrestling for 3 years when he was young, and I still don't know anything about the sport. So while the coverage needs to be good, it can't be so full of wrestling jargon, and it can't assume any level of knowledge on the part of the reader, so that it winds up being inaccessible to the average fan.

3.) This coverage cannot be provided by current TSL staff. We don't have the expertise, the knowledge, or the "bandwidth" to do it justice. So someone here on this board, or perhaps an organized group of you, would need to take charge of any article content that gets written.

4.) The good news about providing article coverage is that the Wrestling program is very accessible. Kevin Dresser is very open to interacting with the media and, if provided the opportunity to cooperate with coverage about his wrestlers, will bend over backwards to accommodate. And Russian Hokie often takes photos at Wrestling meets, so the photography content would be plentiful and outstanding, to support the written content.

In summary, we have an opportunity here to make TSL an outstanding hub of Virginia Tech wrestling coverage and discussion, in a big way. But we have to do it right, and carry it out in an organized, quality fashion. But in order to do THAT, we need a lot of support from those of you here on this board.
