SoftSoap

Guy who invented "SoftSoap" knew it wouldn't be hard for any of the big companies to copy his idea and he would likely lose any infringement lawsuits (basically, your pre-mixing your soap in water).

So, in order to protect his idea, he went out and bought basically the ENTIRE SUPPLY of pump apparatus for bottles and allowing only his brand on the market. Sold off the company to Colgate for $60MM after a year of reaping the profits from his idea with no competition.
