Re: Just a couple add-ons

I agree on all fronts.

Stalling – This isn’t a partisan comment because I can’t even recall how the calls helped or hurt VT wrestlers, but there was enormous inconsistency from one match to another (or is it one ref to another?). That’s very tough on the wrestlers. Saw a lot of stall warnings or points when a wrestler escaped out of bounds when the two were already wrestling on the line or even partially over it. You pull left and you’re out of bounds. That’s way different than racing out of bounds.

MSG – I heard some old school talk on other boards that wrestling doesn’t belong in NYC; championships should maybe be in St. Louis every year. While I’m no fan of NYC in general, I thought MSG was a great venue for the Championship. Three straight days of sell-out crowds in fabled MSG!!! What could possibly be wrong with that? Wrestling needs to spread out and give itself exposure beyond its Midwestern roots. I thought the Olympic status debacle taught everyone that the sport needed more excitement and wider exposure. Keep moving the event around the country, and bring it back to MSG every once in a while.

Fans across the board were consistently excellent and respectful. Maybe some people had a few bad interactions, but we only experienced positive conversations from team to team.

Along those lines, heard a ton of positive comments from other fans about the VT wrestlers, coaches and fans. The blood round results really impressed.

David Terao of American earned his standing Os because of the way he wrestled and, IMHO, he was robbed of reverse and near fall points against Tomasello.

Dresser – The potential existed that his pre-National Duals comments might have earned him some enemies in coaching circles. But his COY honor indicates instead that he is extremely respected by his peers and that his (and his assistants’) tremendous efforts in Blacksburg have everyone’s attention.

The wrestlers – What a tough haul that tournament is for the guys. Kudos to all of them.
