PAC12 has about 2/3 of the ACC's population footprint

I do not know how you calculated the 2-3x number. Looking at pure state population numbers, the differences aren't that great. However, it's hard to make a good argument that Syracuse 'owns' New York State, or that Pitt owns Pennsylvania. Penn State is clearly the largest media presence in Pennsylvania.

The only states where the ACC controls the collegiate media markets are NC and VA. The ACC holds a measly slice of GA, and splits with the SEC in SC and FL.

Thus, I'm not impressed with footprint arguments, especially in comparison with the P12. For example, the P12 unquestionably commands the TV market for college sports among CA's 40 million residents. That's equivalent to the population of MA, NY and PA, and who really thinks we have a comparable number of college fans watching there? Maybe decent numbers during hoops season, but I doubt people are traveling from NYC to tailgate at Cuse on Saturday afternoon.
