Almost sounded as if Wes Durham feels an...
ACCN will not be like that of the SEC, Big 10, or Pac 12. He was talking about the large TV markets within the ACC geographic footprint. It sounds like there won't be an ACCN but what we are watching now on local TV stations and ESPN will include more Olympic sports than in the past. Maybe ESPN will decrease SEC Olympic sports (on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU) and show most of them on their SECN? Maybe Raycom hosts more Olympic sports on regional networks like Fox Sports South and Comcast Sports Net or on local TV stations within the ACC TV market? I expect more ACC sports to be on ESPN3 and maybe a potential ESPN4 (likely named the ACCN)? I just don't see a network similar to the BTN or SECN in our future from what I heard from Wes Durham.
ESPN will throw another $45 million per year at the ACC if there's no ACCN by July 1st. Since Notre Dame only gets 20% compared to all the other school's 100%, I would expect the 14 full members to get a little over $3 million per year. The extra $3 million still puts the ACC behind the Big 10 and SEC. The only thing positive about this is the ACC will be in third place among the P-5 revenue earners. Will that revenue gap between the ACC and SEC/Big 10 widen each year as they continue to earn more than the ACC? It sure appears that way. I hope I'm wrong.
