First ACC schools see athletics as a component of the university not a separate enterprise.

almost 70 percent of ACC teams have endowments of over a billion dollars. Many have a huge private funded model. The least financed schools for total university are FSU and Clemson.

Therefore big picture, these schools have buffers if athletics slip into the red. I hate to use the word they are 'elite' schools.-very IVY league like

West Va does not fit the ACC model..... management wise; and athletics, too much for ACC schools.... folks say Louisville- well that was a strong push from Clemson and FSU, who financially need a athletics focused school (and like it or not the cardinal program budget is a national program with a budget almost over 100 million dollars.

My take is West VA as an institution burned alot of bridges over the big east separation. Their leadership now continues to be in your face and tends for big theatre. Oliver Luck if he remained could have built bridges back- but he's got a great position at the NCAA HQ. oACC schools will deal with similar institutions, with similar cultures. The ACC schools
have much larger academic horizons than just athletics.
