Lacrosse is an interesting dynamic as well....that we don't have
no lacrosse at all around here other than two NAIA colleges. There seems to be a big socio-economic overlap between baseball and lacrosse.
We have travel ball at 8 at 9 here as well, but it hasn't impacted the Pony league yet, until they get to 11. Was shocked at a tournament last year when I saw a coach pitch travel team game. Paying $1000 a year in player fees to watch kids kick the ball around the infield. These "elite" 8 year olds don't look any different than the kids in Pony.
Good point about fall ball. I've pushed my son away from that because I feel like his body needs to rest and recover, especially his throwing arm. He also does XCountry in the fall. He works with a hitting coach pretty much year round, but that's just 1/2 hour a week.
