Sounds like you hit the motherload of jerk fans.

I am as loud and enthusiastic as anyone, but I would never, ever touch someone I didn't know. That's simply asking for trouble. I actually try to strike up conversations with opposing fans to try and ease the tension a bit. Harder to be a jerk to someone you "know."
