That's a valid point, but

In wrestling it's a bit different than other sports. In football, a coach can't really get in the game and show you what you are doing wrong as hands on as a wrestling coach can. You can actually work out with your coaches as a training partner. Being able to workout in the room everyday with a world silver medalist is a big deal or in St. Johns case a 4x AA, when you start seeing top 5 kids in the nation. We can compare coaching resumes as well though.

As much as we hate Iowa around here, you have to respect their program as a whole. Zadick spent 10 years at Iowa. During that time they won Team National Titles and Big Ten Conference championships. I'm not naive to think that he has everything to do with this, but his coaching career is every bit as good as Hoffmans who spent 6 years at Bucknell(great PA school, but not the caliber of Iowa), and then he's been here for 4 years.

Then another point that HokieLIfer brought up is that those results can help when recruiting. If you are a teen trying to pick a school to spend your career, is a World Silver medalist and 3x AA or a 1x AA, who you want to work out with every day?

They are both very successful and Hoffman has been a big part of VT over the past few years, but on paper and on the mat i'm not sure you can compare the two.
