My thoughts on yesterday...

Had a great time...I'm very lucky to have a wife that can enjoy spending the day going to an event like that. And we're going to try 3 days like that in NYC too :-)

UVa did a good job as host. JPJ is a really nice facility. It was easy to get to, easy to park, and everything went smoothly. Only complaints would be: (a) they weren't allowing tablets/ipads/laptops in. Huh? No reason given, just not allowed...not a huge deal, just puzzling. (b) the whole spotlight thing in the championship round...they should have tested that and known it wasn't going to work. If they could have lit up the whole mat and had the rest of the arena dark, that might've been pretty cool, but spotlight just the wrestlers wasn't (and to their credit, they realized it and fixed it).

Not surprisingly, we had a great Hokie crowd there. Clearly more of us than for any other school. NCSU had a nice following as well.

As for the wrestling, it was frustrating. We kept waiting for someone to have some kind of breakout moment to really get the ball rolling for us. Close several times, but it just wouldn't happen.

Man, I feel for Sal...I understand how what happened happened, but that had to be crushing for him (and it obviously was as he walked out through the tunnel after the match. I hope his coaches and teammates are able to pick him up and enable him to rally back next year.

Kudos to NCSU...obviously a really strong roster and they were all getting it done yesterday...UVa guys gave us a glimmer of home there in the 3rd place matches, but they took care of business in the championships.

Gwiz is just a monster...what he did to Gillen in the semis was classic man vs. boy stuff.

Match of the day may have been DiCamillo vs. Morris in the semis. I think Morris went up 11-4 or something in the 1st? Then DiCamillo came back to win 14-13...wild.

Had a great time and still feel great about our chances for a best-ever showing in NYC. Hope the guys have a great week-and-a-half preparing and can't wait to see the big show!
