I'm sure that you and a few others may be surprised
that I posted that but I'm wise enough to know that the ACC is a proud conference. Outsiders seem to feel that the ACC isn't as proud as their conferences, but they obviously haven't been around the remaining 6 original ACC member school fan bases.
I also realize that Virginia Tech will do everything they can to keep the ACC together. ACC membership was a dream for many Hokie fans. It was a great day (actually evening) for me when I heard Tech was finally joining the ACC. It felt as good as winning an ACC football championship.
My problem with the ACC is it's make up of state and private universities. We'll disagree on this, but IMHO the ACC has too many private universities. That is one of the main reasons we don't have an ACCN today. The ACC should've never taken Boston College. Syracuse should've gotten that 12th invite. UConn would've been a better 13th or 14th member than BC.
Imagine if the ACC had the same membership structure as the Big 10, SEC, or Pac -12. A true Atlantic Coast Conference with Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, NC State. Duke, Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State and either West Virginia, Pitt, or Miami would have a conference network today. Large state universities have the fan bases. Wake and BC hurt us. The BTN, SECN, and Pac-12 Network are up and running (making money) because all three of those conferences have 83%+ state university memberships. The ACC only has 60% state university membership.
Having Notre Dame for all sports would guarantee the ACC a network within a month of their announcement, but I don't expect Notre Dame to join any time soon.
