That's based upon what happened w/ Maryland.


Maryland agreed to a flat 50 million dollar buyout. The ACC simply withheld 30 million of their payouts for a couple of years, and then the judges and lawyers agreed to allow both parties to walk away.

I could see something similar occurring if an ACC team left in the future. The ACC would not give them a payout for 1-3 years and then the attorneys and judges would allow them to walk away. Nobody would want to keep fighting it for longer than that. Who would want to keep paying the attorneys?

And BTW, it's an interesting concept you mentioned with regard to the Big12's GOR. Their tier3 rights weren't given away as the ACC teams were. Thus, any games left over would be available to a new conference's network I suppose. Regrettably, the ACC teams have had their content handed over years ago. ESPN was given everything. They don't owe us a dime more for it. That's how bad a deal we're stuck in.
