One thing I seem to recall about Patterson's D is he always seems to have very good linebacker play. I'm not one of those guys who is so far down on the current group that it's beyond repair but I do acknowledge it's a far cry from Hall and Adibi. A far cry. And a comment of note from Patterson was your scheme has to fit the talent so if you don't have a couple monsters to control the middle you compensate in other ways. 3 big space eaters up front supplemented by 4 speedy guys who fill and blitz? The DTs currently in the fold are as big as the have ever been under Foster and a guy like Settle adds a rare dimension to his size so why not experiment? It may just be a change up that you pull out 1 or 2 times a game to create a whiskey tango foxtrot moment for the O at a critical moment but who knows. Either way I'm intrigued more with the modular approach which in theory could be applied to any scheme. Good stuff all around I think!
