This may sound morbid ...

...but take peace in that he passed suddenly and didn't suffer. I had to watch my 56 year old pops shrivel up to nothing and eventually pass after a year's battle with cancer. Maybe a month or two before his diagnosis he was in a car accident in which his flipped his truck on 95 on ice. Sometimes I wish he was instantly killed rather than having to watch him suffer through the pain and even the embarrassment he felt when he couldn't even make it to the bathroom. It's hard for me to remember the good times, because the last year is so ingrained in my memory. You don't have that my friend, so in some ways its a blessing.

god speed bro, it gets easier with time
