At the time, similar thing, but we refused to purchase video games. We


didn't mind if our kids went to someone else's house to play. They were pretty upset for awhile but we just didn't want the distraction. Both children have thanked us profusely for holding the line when they were young and admitted that they probably would have been glued to the computer/Tv for hours like many of their kids.

Not quite the same, but gaming systems were our smart phones of the day.
