Yep, understand completely. My mom is 87 and in assisted living

We spend the winter at our house in Florida. I fly back to VA about every 3 weeks to check on my mom, handle any bills, chauffeur to doctors appointments, and just to visit. She has Parkinson and the slight beginnings of dementia (but very mild).

Whenever the phone rings and the caller ID shows the assisted living facility a tense up. Over the years the calls have been everything from "she's fallen but is ok", to "one of the residents keeps hitting your mother", to "she has a high fever and is hallucinating and we've taken her to the hospital", and everything in between.

In fact I'm sitting in the airport right now waiting for flight back to FL after visiting her this week. My sister gets back to town about 4 times a year and really has no idea about the day to day of managing her affairs, picking up depends, etc. shuttling her around when she can barely walk, etc.
