UNC has spent over 40 million dollars to put out the couple of rogues story, so its not your fault that you don't know the extent of the scandal. The truth is out though, uncovered in thousands of emails the Heels were forced to release.

Even though the SACS explicitly used the term academic fraud in sanctioning the Heels, the NCAA has to avoid that term completely due to the two pending lawsuits against the NCAA, One of those lawsuits claims that the NCAA did not protect the student athletes right to recieve an education. Due to this suit, the NCAA has hit the Heels with receiving impermissible benefits.
