Of course there was an attitude that kids didn't have the
ability to handle regular classes...and I have little doubt that many, if not most, of them had proved that by taking regular classes and getting crappy grades. No one had to make any assumptions based on the color of their skin.
Nobody got funneled to AFAM as a major and took only AFAM classes...it wouldn't have been possible to keep them eligible that way (not for very long anyway). The "paper" classes were primarily GPA boosters.
