I feel it would be in the best interest of all parties for the P5 to just break away and do ther own thing.

First, I would begin by paying these players, something in the 25K range. Allow the players to capitalize off their celebrity however they can as well. It works in the NFL. You don't hear folks worried about whether or not Peyton Manning paid for his steak. You don't hear about bagmen working for the Jets. And for those who do not feel the money is there, we could pay all 100 scholly football and basketball players at VT for much less than what we are paying the head football coach. This new Playoffs money alone would cover the tab.

BTW, if there is a Title IX issue, you could pay 15 women's bball players too.

Second, this new breakaway P5 could create and enforce penalties with some teeth. If UNC fakes classes, the P5 could take away their Playoff and bowl money. They could hit them hard for $15 million here or there. The current NCAA has no teeth, because the Radfords of the world do not wish to rock the UNC boat. UNC's bringing in the dough for DII and DIII schools, and everybody's scared of hurting their feelings.

It just makes too much sense for this not to be done. Non revenue sports at VT are much more similar to intramural affairs. VT fball and basketball are much more similar to the NFL or NBA.
