You're right. That never happens. Cops, unlike the rest of humanity, are never wrong, biased, vindictive, or acting on bad information.

They're going by the legal process that we've established. If they had a tool, could they subvert that process? Absolutely. But, much like in physical evidence, I would presume evidence gathered illegally (without a warrant) would be inadmissable, so in that regard I have less concern about privacy from law enforcement.

Then we have things like laws passed to help combat terrorism that get perverted into chasing down drug dealers or other non-terrorist bad guys because, hey, we've got the tools may as well use em!
