Manufacturers and carriers just don't want to deal with this
Can you imagine how many requests Apple and AT&T and the like would get if law enforcement or private litigants could ask to have someone's phone security cracked? They would have to create a full time work force to deal with all of the requests.
It's one thing to take measures when, for example, a child or someone else is missing and may be in danger. But doing this for any crime, after the fact, seems like a lot.
