I'm not anti-dog by any means, but I also don't know that buying a "guard"


dog is the best option. If you want another dog, great. But to buy a dog with thoughts that it's going to be a deterrent isn't the greatest idea either, IMO. People are breaking in during the day when nobody is home anyway. The dog doesn't need to be big. Just loud. Same with an alarm. We have an alarm and pay $200/year for it. I travel some and work late a lot, and a dog may be a little rough on the family.

If you're worried about home invasion, none of the above is going to help anyway.
