I think your current dog is just fine for that.


To me, the main benefit of a dog for home protection is that a would be burglar comes to the house, hears the dog barking and decides "Oooh, that could wake them up" or "yeah, it's probably not ACTUALLY vicious....but I think I'll just rob the neighbors".

Because any other scenario has determined robbers, probably armed, probably willing to kill your dog.

And if you never have burglars, then all you've got is a semi vicious dog who's a potential liability issue with your neighbors.
