Not a VT prof, but I had a Civil Engineering prof that gave no partial

credit on tests. For example, a test with four long problems could result in possible grades of 0, 25, 50, 75, or 100.

The prof was not a native speaker, and someone in the class asked him why he didn't give any partial credit if you did most of the problem correctly, but made a small mistake.

His response was, "Bridge either stand up or fall down."
