Again, I knew this class was not going to be good for several reasons, and Fuente did not have a lot to work with in order to bring in guys for this class; however, I am still a little nervous moving forward. My trepidations are not so much with Fuente (because I will take a wait-and-see approach with him), but with the fact that we kept so many other coaches from the old staff that were part of a pretty average recruiting regime. Fuente may be a great coach, but this program needs PLAYERS if we want to compete moving forward. We aren't in the MAC where we can play a P5 school once a year, beat them, and feel good about it. We play P5 schools every weekend and you need top athletes to compete. It's that simple. The recruiting culture at VT MUST CHANGE. I can't stress that enough. Shaking hands, kissing babies and being a "great guy" is one thing.......signing top football prospects is another thing. We need to start signing top football prospects again, and I really hope we can do that with half of a staff that had become comfortable with a ho-hum outlook on recruiting......
