Quick WVU breakdown

Good test for the Hokies. Its senior day so expect Dresser to want to start with lighter weights so he can see if we have a lead going into the uppers and can wrestle some of the seniors. Tech is fortunate that it generally lines up where our studs wrestle their studs. On paper i have it a close but decisive win for Tech, lets look at individual matchups:

125 Dance vs. Moisey - Probably the marquee matchup, though i'm very bearish on moisey. He's had a bunch of losses this year although they always come to top competition. We know by now moisey is a very funky wrestler, as is joey. I look for joey to make a difference riding on top, where he's improve leaps and bounds. Close decision Dance, 3-0 Tech.

133 Gustafson vs. Moore - Moore, a true freshman, is the kind of on the bubble wrestler Dennis has to beat to earn an auto-bid for the ACC. Nothing impressive outside of a win over Bruno of michigan, with a lot of close losses. Dennis has been back in the starting roll for almost a month now and the rust should be knocked off. This one ends close than it should, but still Gus by decision, 6-0 tech.

141 Chishko vs. DeAngelo - Deangelo is a good veteran wrestler, whos had an absolutely brutal schedule this year. He'll probably face 6-7 of the top 10 by seasons end. As a result, he's a little under the radar, but I'd call him top 25. Sully should win this one, and chishko is quietly becoming one of our more consistent wrestlers. Nothing to separate this to a major, but a win for tech nonetheless, 9-0 Tech

149 Mastriani vs. Moore - This is kind of a turning point for sal. Either he has finally healed up that high ankle sprain and right the ship, or he needs some upsets at the ACC tourney to get in. A healthy sal at the beginning of the year is pushing for a major in this contest. Moore is nothing special, and mastriani should be able to impose his will. I think the ankle problem will persist, but mastriani has just enough to eek this one out 12-0 Tech

157 Brascetta vs. Cottrell - Cottrell is a very good app state product, and a tough out for nick. This should be a good indicator of where nick is at heading into his monster dual with Gantt. On senior night, i think nick rises to the occasion and we see a MD here. 16-0 Tech.

165 McFadden vs. Flynn - The battle of true freshmen, Flynn has a few good scalps to his name, most notable Faust for Duke. McFadden appears to better on his feet and should have a TD advantage in this one. Dave by decision, 19-0 tech.

174 Epperly vs. Renzi - Renzi is a middle of the road wrestler, nothing special, but enough to a challenge. If epp is on form, this is at least a major.. If epp is a no go, we're scrambling to win this with either hughes or bergida. I'm assuming epp goes and ill choose a MD, 23-0 tech.

184 Zavatsky OR Gabel vs. Scheffel - If the scoring has gone as predicted thus far dresser has a decision to make. Gabbel should, for his contributions get a start, especially if we have a 13+ point lead (so 2 pins wont make a difference). If its 19+ point lead, i think gabel goes at 184 to avoid the moster that is smith at 197. It will be a close one between gabel and Scheffel, who's a NCAA bubble bid type guy. If its close than 19, i think zavatsky goes out to get the win to build cushion for 197. In my scenario, Gabel wrestles at 184 and wins a very tight decision on senior day, 26-0.

197 Haught OR Gabel vs. Smith - So im operating under the assumption that Jared is healthy and gabel has already wrestled. Haught and Smith met at vegas, and Smith was just a step better, nothing to think thats changed. unfortunately i have a gut feeling smith by major, 26-4

285 Walz OR Garwood OR Taylor vs. Vizcarrondo - If we start at light weights, the dual should be in hand by 285 giving dresser a chance to start a senior. Garwood is a stellar backup, and has a shot to beat Vizcarrondo. That said, ill pick the starter by decision, 26-7.

All this obviously changes if tech gets upset at the lighter weights, or even if we start at 165+. Still this looks like a situation where our strength at 125 and 157 makes a hge difference.

Go Hokies
